What is the test of alpine regions?

Many people think the alpine region is "cold". In fact, what really matters is repeated temperature difference.

In the daytime, it is minus ten degrees, and the snow is on it; At night, the temperature rises a little, and the snow melts and penetrates into the wood; Re-freeze the next day. This "freeze-thaw-freeze" cycle is more damaging to the material than simple low temperatures.

Why? Because the volume of water frozen will expand by about 9%. If the water enters the micropores inside the wood, it freezes like a myriad of small hammers inside and out, and the wood begins to disintegrate from the inside several times. This is known as "frost heave failure".

The preservative treated pine withstands this cycle. The pores inside the oil-immersed wood are filled with preservative, so the moisture cannot enter, which naturally reduces the possibility of frost heaving damage. The deeper the oil is immersed, the greater the protection range, and the longer the service life of the sleeper is guaranteed.

It should also be mentioned that the ultraviolet is not weak in alpine regions. At high altitudes, the solar radiation is stronger and the wood surface is prone to aging and chalking. Fortunately, most of the agents used for anti-corrosion treatment have the ability of ultraviolet protection at the same time. Although the surface layer will slowly ash, it will not affect the strength of the internal structure.

Material selection shall be correct. Not all products marked with "Anti-corrosion Sleeper" meet the standard, and the oil immersion depth can refer to the test report. Don't listen to the sales saying "we have good quality", and the data on paper is the hard truth.
